Launching of the Plains Post Newspaper

The first publication of the Plains Post will be coming in the next few weeks and will be celebrated as its inaugural issue. A launch party and additional information will be forthcoming once plans are confirmed. Continue reading below...

Dedicated to good, clear writing, excellent photography and a respect for the community it serves, the Plains Post mission is to promote local events, businesses, feel-good stories, local government, and breaking news.  We will also identify issues about how to sustain the town’s economy without losing the qualities that make Plains special.

Founding publisher and Editor-in-Chief, Melisa Kennedy, is setting the tone early with her assessment that we are no longer in Plains' former heyday when our beloved Jimmy Carter was in the White House -- and that the importance of new ideas and new blood has never been more needed. After purchasing a home within the city limits of Plains in 2020, Ms. Kennedy has written a story and cookbook about her new hometown. Her love and desire to build this town to new heights is evident in a few short years while creating timeless content and building meaningful relationships for the Plains Post.

We feel there are several important factors to include in the town's new official newspaper. Continuing the town's traditional campaign against unbridled development that threatens the survival of our non-commercialized historical town while supporting pollinators and native creatures of our local ecosystem will be part of the newspaper’s cause. Ms. Kennedy’s mission will go beyond this with stories about preserving our open space and conserving wildlife to include protecting the character of Plains in human terms, which will also add value to the newspaper in these ever-changing times. Plans to include a "Letter to the Editor" section, obituaries, wedding and baby announcements, and advertising opportunities will be part of the newspaper as well.

We plan to have feel-good stories whenever possible, and real local articles that are full of joy! We hope you’ll be able to envision yourself when you look at our pages.

We know that every Plains newspaper has had its hills and valleys, but we encourage you to be a fan of the Plains Post for the long haul. In a time when local newspapers and journalism are dying, we are confident that this is the right choice for Plains. We believe strong local newspapers can change the world, one reader at a time, with the backing of its people.
