Welcome to Small Gardening 101. There's so much I love about the RV lifestyle - the adventures, the change of scenery, and meeting new people. Though these are all great advantages to the RV life, especially if you are full time RVing, but there is one thing I did miss and that was gardening.

How to Grow a Garden in an RV Site
My wish list for this micro RV garden located right on my campsite includes a couple of portable garden boxes, potting table which also doubles as the picnic table, and some bishop hooks for hanging baskets with herbs, strawberries, and vegetables in them.

Container Gardening at Your RV Site
START SMALL: The key really is to start small and keep it simple. I started with herbs (rosemary and spearmint) planted in cute shabby chic containers and placed them right on the picnic table supplied by the campground. This is how I learned that they were pretty easy to keep alive! They’ll actually run rampant if you let them. Herbs really don’t require much care and are great for beginners. Just start with one or two that you love in the kitchen windowsill, where they’ll get light and you won’t neglect them because they’ll be there every time you go to the sink.
2. LOCATION: Not everyone will have full sun at their RV site, so try your hand at container planting so you can move your RV garden around if needed. Find fun vessels such as portable garden boxes found here. This method softens up the feel of your RV campground site and makes it a pretty place for friends to gather.
Being that I love a natural look, go for a wooden garden box that is movable around your camp site. Or if you like to match your garden bishop hooks like I did, go for black iron trellis options for your garden vines to grow up, which also provides for a natural privacy fence between your RV site and your neighbors camp site.
3. STARTER PLANTS:
Easy starter plants for me at my RV site were my rose bushes, tomato plants and, of course, #herbs. I love them all for different reasons. The roses look pretty in a small, fresh arrangement, and the tomatoes and herbs are useful.
As for fresh herbs at your campsite, learning to cook with them can revolutionize your experience in your RV kitchen. The addition of fresh cilantro, rosemary, or parsley to a breakfast omelet, for example, brings a piquancy and delicacy to the heavy egg flavor. Also, plants at your RV site (or in the small interior of your RV) can lighten your spirit on long road trips and help you breathe by cleansing the air. An added bonus is that giving away produce is one of the best ways to make new friends at the campground!
Fresh Herbs Omelette
4 large or extra-large eggs
Salt and freshly ground pepper
1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon milk
3 tablespoons minced chopped herbs, such as parsley, dill, chives, tarragon, chervil, basil, mint from your RV garden
1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
